A VERY JONAS CHRISTMAS šĀ
Let it Bro! Let it Bro! Let it Bro!
A VERY JONAS CHRISTMAS is a classic make-it-home-for-Christmas tale where Kevin Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Nick Jonas, who have just finished up their world tour in London, struggle to find a way back home in time to spend Christmas with their family.
For some, a Christmas movie featuring the beloved 2000s boy band was a long time coming; for others, it might be a little too lateābut after what I saw, I think it was better late than never.
The Jonas Brothers have a gifted chemistry that exudes off the screen, making every moment of this cliche Christmas story work in ways it probably wouldnāt have with any other cast. It also helps that they sprinkled in a bunch of incredibly fun cameos, which added some extra star power and energized the laid-back dynamic of three brothers whoāve clearly reached their limit with one another. Well, for the most part. Joe is the only single one of the three and is trying to convince the band to end the world tour with a night out but realizes that those nights out in the city together are long gone.
But like āSantaā says, āThereās nothing like Christmas to help a family rediscover its magic.ā
As someone who grew up watching the Disney/Family Channel and keeps up with pop culture, I know more about the Jonas Brothers than Iād like to admit. The best part about A VERY JONAS CHRISTMAS is that itās tailor-made for an audience that has kept up with the band and has seen their evolution over the years. There are moments that poke fun at Joe for having a new love interest or āconnectionā every year and something as simple as Kevin never singing. It just works.
Will it work for everyone? Probably not.
I donāt know if parents want their kids watching a movie where a pilot hopes that taking his shirt off to send āpicsā to his girlfriend will win her back. It was hilarious to me, but Iām not sure if that will be funny for families. And thereās also the fact that if you donāt know the Jonas Brothers, a lot of the inside baseball references (which is a lot of the movie) may seem dumb and uninteresting.
I was surprised that I actually enjoyed it. The runtime flew right by; my biggest worry was the musical aspect that actually worked seamlessly into the story, and not having to endure any over-the-top dance numbers helped as well.
A VERY JONAS CHRISTMAS is Hallmark cheese with a sprinkle of Disney magic, and that will be more than enough for most.Ā
Enjoy!
