Star Wars: Maul - Shadow Lord ✨(2026)
(Episodes 1-8)
From crime syndicates and gang warfare to Jedi in hiding and the crushing grip of the Empire, MAUL: SHADOW LORD is the kind of Star Wars I’ve been waiting years for—and somehow didn’t even know I needed.
I’ve been craving a more mature story in a galaxy far, far away for what feels like ages now. As great as Andor was, the one thing it was missing, what I feel is core to any great Star Wars story is the Force.
By the grace of the Mortis gods, MAUL: SHADOW LORD delivers.
It feels equal parts Andor, while being set after the Clone Wars, giving it that prequel-era energy I grew up loving. At the same time, it explores the depth of what it means to be abandoned and betrayed by your comrades yet powerful enough to do something about it through an exiled, samurai-coded lens that I couldn’t get enough of.
Then you’ve got Academy-Award nominee Wagner Moura as a detective trying to hold onto his sense of justice while the Empire tightens its grip around him. That push and pull, order vs control, honor vs survival, turns this into something bigger than just Star Wars. It’s a crime drama and a character study with real weight behind it.
There’s so much maturity and depth here, without ever feeling softened by cutesy characters or distractions. It’s relentless, it’s dark, and its intensity is palpable. This is Star Wars without the training wheels.
I’ve seen the first eight episodes, and now I’m counting down the days until the final two.
