NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK 👔 (2026)
Mindy Kaling has a winning formula on her hands with the upcoming sitcom series, NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK.
The 2010s were flooded with mockumentary-style sitcoms. While that format still has plenty of life left in it (Abbott Elementary being a perfect example) NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK is aiming for something a little more traditional. It feels like a throwback to the hangout sitcoms that once dominated television, with the potential to become this decade’s Friends.
It’s some of the most fun I’ve had watching anything all year. And I don’t mean that in a “greatest show ever made” kind of way. I mean it’s the perfect sitcom to throw on after work while eating dinner, unwinding, and spending 30 minutes with characters you genuinely enjoy hanging out with. It has all the hallmarks of a quintessential sitcom: lovable characters, razor-sharp chemistry, and just the right amount of “who’s going to end up with who?” romantic chaos to keep you invested.
What makes NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK feel so refreshing is that it occupies a space television has largely abandoned.
While so many modern sitcoms revolve around families or quirky small-town communities, Mindy Kaling taps into something far more relatable: the everyday grind of young professionals trying to build a life, chase success, and somehow stay sane while navigating the rat race. Throw in the energy of a bustling city, a cast fueled by wildly misguided ambition, and enough workplace dysfunction to keep HR permanently on edge, and you have NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK.
Earlier this year, I was singing the praises of TikTok star-turned-actor Jack Martin, whose performance in PIZZA MOVIE ranked among my favourites of the year. In NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK, he proves that was no fluke. His comedic timing is exceptional, and even when he’s playing the most insufferable person in the room, he somehow remains endlessly hilarious. Every line lands exactly as intended.
Another standout is Avantika, who finally gets the opportunity to spread her wings and take on a role that feels like a real step forward for her as an actress. After being somewhat pigeonholed in previous projects, it's exciting to see her given the freedom to show off her comedic chops. And honestly, her facial expressions alone are worth the price of admission. Expect plenty of meme and GIF-worthy material from this show.
Mindy Kaling is clearly on a hot streak right now. Following RUNNING POINT with NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK, she continues to prove why she's one of the most reliable voices in television comedy.
She also clearly has a soft spot for Jay Ellis, casting him once again as the resident heartthrob. This time around, though, he trades in the charming coach persona for a slick, business-savvy boss who knows exactly how much power he holds in every room he walks into.
As someone who has been craving more workplace comedies and fewer high-school and family-centric sitcoms, this series felt like a breath of fresh air. It scratches an itch that television hasn't been catering to nearly enough lately. Most importantly, by the end of the season, I wasn't ready to say goodbye to these characters, which in my book is the sign of a job well done.
NOT SUITABLE FOR WORK follows a group of ambitious young workaholics navigating the chaotic early stages of their careers, finding humor and camaraderie in the grind of thankless employment. They're selfish, impulsive, and constantly testing each other's patience, but it's their determination to take big swings, fail spectacularly, and keep pushing forward that makes them so fun to watch. Through every setback, they continue to show up for one another, transforming what could have been a cynical workplace comedy into an unexpectedly heartfelt and feel-good experience.
Season two can’t come soon enough.
Enjoy!
